Playing supported Wii games without a mod chip is one of the biggest problems many people around the world have. With scratched and damaged discs, it’s no wonder a lot of people want to be able to play a ripped version of their game on their Wii… but with all the copyright protection we now have, this is an almost impossible task. However, if you know where to look, there are tools that allow you to copy and play games on your Wii without a mod chip.

The problem with Wii game protection is simple. Because the Wii uses DVDs instead of Nintendo’s preferred “cartridges,” they found that much was being copied illegally. This led Nintendo to introduce a layer of copyright protection known as “encryption”. Encryption is where Nintendo burns game discs in a special “language” that only the Wii can understand. This makes the games impossible to copy, because if you try to use a DVD burner to copy them, it will just copy a bunch of random text and lyrics.

This encryption means that when you try to back up your Wii games, you should be able to copy them with the encrypted portions intact. And that is the problem that many people face. You see, the Wii won’t play a game without encryption, which is why many people get modified chips for their console (these chips are soldered to the console, which bypasses encryption)… but if you don’t want to void your warranty, you can copy your games by getting a tool/technique that can read and duplicate the encrypted disc perfectly.

Although there are not many tools and methods that allow you to make perfect 1:1 copies of Nintendo Wii games, there are a few select tools that allow you to do so, if you know where to look. Fortunately, someone has been able to crack the Wii’s encryption, which means they can make a DVD burner that will read it. This allows you to copy your games seamlessly, without having to get a mod chip or damage your original games.
