You have a spiritual gift. I’m sure you have a spiritual gift if you are a human being. And if you are reading this article, then you are a human being and you have a spiritual gift. But if you don’t know what it is, you’re not going to benefit from it. In this article I will show you how you can determine or discover your spiritual gift.
It is one of the signs of spiritual awakening that people are looking for a way to find out what spiritual gifts they have received from the Spirit. The spiritual hunger of the people drives them to seek the gifts that the Spirit has given them. If he is trying to discover or determine what gifts the Spirit has given him, then he has come to the right place.
There are three signs that show you what your spiritual gift or gifts are. These three signs are: 1) an activity that is easy or pleasant for you; 2) an activity that you do well produces results; 3) it is of benefit to others and, consequently, to you.
Those are the three signs, but they don’t include how you actually discover the gift. I will discuss this later. Let’s first discuss the three signs above.
The first sign that you have this gift is that you are doing an activity that is easy or enjoyable for you. It can be singing, dancing, healing or speaking in another language. The first two examples I just gave can also be talents. But talents are different from gifts. Strictly speaking, talents are innate. Gifts are given when you are of legal age or mature enough to make use of the gift. But some of the so-called talents can also be given as gifts. In other words, they come late into your life, like in the example I give of singing and dancing.
The second sign is that you do this activity well or are effective in this activity. You put your hand on a sick person and that sick person is cured. You have the gift of healing. You sing and people are moved to tears. You have the gift of singing. If you sing and people applaud you, you may only have the talent to sing but not the gift.
And the third sign is that the activity helps or benefits other people. and consequently benefits you. You heal people and become useful to others. You become a useful person.
These three signs must appear together, not one at a time. They are present in every activity that is your gift.
Usually, a gift is discovered during a crisis situation. You don’t go around trying this or that activity to find out if you have this or that gift. You don’t go to hospitals to put your hands on the sick to find out if you have the gift of healing. If you do this, hospital administrators may force you to leave the hospital as a nuisance.
What usually happens is that you find yourself in a crisis situation. For example, your neighbor is sick and the doctors cannot find anything wrong with that sick person. And you called just to visit. Before leaving the patient you say a prayer and as a gesture of help you place your right hand on the person’s head. The person recovers, instantly or after a while. You do this again with other people and the same effect occurs. People heal. You have the gift of healing.
I gave the example of the gift of healing because it is quite common and there are those who believe that each of us has the gift of healing. I also give this example because it is a gift that I myself have experienced.
But there are other gifts.
So how do you determine the gift that has been given to you? Talk to the Spirit. Ask him what gift he gave you. Then keep helping other people. When you encounter a crisis situation, you will discover the gift you have been given.
Another example. This guy took pity on those who don’t have a good stable shelter. He built a housing project for a poor and depressed community. He got publicity. Soon other people helped him with his project of sheltering people. He has the gift of sheltering the homeless. In fact, he has gone around the world giving shelter to people. You may know who this person is, because he is famous.
Discovering or determining your gift is like a spiritual awakening. You wake up to the reality that you have a gift that can be of great help to others.
