Let’s turn our attention to off-page SEO, which is even more important to our website’s ranking than on-page SEO. In fact, off-page SEO is the most important thing of all if we are going to look for organic traffic: organic traffic is those people who find our site through a search on a search engine. Statistically it has been shown that organic traffic converts to buyers more than any other form of traffic and therefore it is incredibly important to try to court this type of traffic.

There is an off-page aspect of SEO and that is backlinks. Backlinks! If our site has no backlinks, we will almost certainly suffer from a lack of website visitors if we are looking for single-purpose organic traffic. Backlinks are very powerful to rank our website on the top of search engines for any given keyword.

What are backlinks? They are links to other sites that will be in the same or similar format to the one given in the previous article…

Example: a href=”www(dot)coloradolawfirm(dot)com/colorado-law-firm”>Colorado Lawyer

This would generally count as a backlink if you were to place it on a page on another website. And the keywords that we would be rewarded for in this backlink would be “colorado attorney”. We would (hopefully) get credit for these keywords from this backlink.

How do we get this kind of html code on someone else’s website to get credit for this link? There are many ways to do this, some much easier than others. And it’s worth noting here that not all links are equal in value. If we are going to get a link from a web page with a high Google PR, then it may be that Google will give us more credit for this link than if the link were applied to a web page with a much lower PR.

There are other factors that come into play here, but again, the general rule of thumb is to try to get links from top PR pages to our site and to our own pages. Don’t go wholeheartedly looking for links from sites that are only PR 5 or higher. This is not a sensible tactic. Ideally, we want a wide range of varied backlinks and not just from high PR pages.
