However, the general herd often wonders how mp4 tends to differ from mp3 units. While some assume that mp4s are more compressed, making them smaller compared to the same mp3 audio files, others think that the two are completely different technologies.

There are many common features between mp3 and mp4 players, while there are also many points of distinction. When comparing the two technologies, the most important point that first catches your eye is that the mp4 format has come up with all the properties to make up for the shortcomings of mp3. In fact, the perceptual quality of the two files of the same bitrate is much better with mp4 compared to mp3.

Since 1993, most downloadable symphonies and songs have come in mp3 format, allowing music lovers to store their favorites in a relatively smaller amount of hard drive space. To be quite honest, the mp3 format has been cursed with a number of limitations and drawbacks, which restrict the efficiency of its encoding process. The limitations are as follows:

* Mp3 cannot change the set stereo mode for any specified scale factor band. The joint stereo option, in the case of mp3 technology, must be used for all bands, which in turn tends to limit the use of joint stereo.

* Non-optimal window sizes result in non-optimal time/frequency resolution in the mp3.

* The last one, ie the 21st scale factor band for the long and short blocks, has no scale factors of its own.

* Missing features, however, are Long Term Prediction (LTP), Temporal Noise Shaping (TNS), Spectral Band Replication (SBR), and Perceptual Noise Substitution (PNS).
