It’s easy to think of Las Vegas as just the place you go to part with your money, and while it’s easy enough to do so, there’s plenty to do for those who don’t enjoy gambling. Non-gamblers may be reluctant to admit it, but Las Vegas has a world of wonderful things to do besides gambling.

Many people, when asked what an ideal vacation would consist of, would mention things like hotels, sightseeing, lounging by a beautiful and luxurious pool, great restaurants, shopping, and entertainment, not to mention dancing and nightclubs.

Well, excluding gambling, you just described Las Vegas. Even outdoor enthusiasts can find great activities at places like Red Rock Canyon, Lake Mead, and even the Grand Canyon not far away. There is world class golf, skiing, hiking, boating and fishing.

Personally, I love food. With all the themed casino hotels around the world and world-class chefs, not to mention the $1.99 shrimp cocktail at the Golden Gate Casino, oh, and I can’t leave out the endless parade of buffets, it’s a lover of food. heaven. Every time I’m in Vegas, I choose which buffets I’m going to enjoy as part of my Vegas experience. For example, if one day I want to eat very well and very cheaply, I could start with the $5.95 breakfast buffet at the Palms, showing up at 10:00 or 10:30 so I can also get into the lunch buffet for no additional charge. Then, when I finally get hungry later at night, I’ll go to Slots-A-Fun on the Strip for a giant 99-cent hotdog.

Las Vegas is also known for entertainment, but many people look no further than the big headliners to discover the world of affordable yet top-notch artists and entertainers that Las Vegas abounds with. For example, there’s the Mac King afternoon comedy show at Harrah’s Casino, sure to delight kids and adults alike, and it’s a steal at $25. By the way, if you love magic, Las Vegas is the city for you.

There are so many more examples I can give of all the wonderful things Las Vegas has to offer vacationers and locals alike besides gambling, but I’ll have to save that for another article.
