Find out what it’s like to speak in public internationally. There is the excitement and adventure of flying to new places, different cultures, exotic foods, new experiences and personal growth. Plus more benefits no matter where you talk.

LET’S START WITH TRAVELING:

It is my first trip to China. The Guoji Yiyuan Huaqiao Corporation, for which I speak (in English) with their executive management group, wants me to be completely at home from the moment I leave LAX (Los Angeles International Airport).

They book me a Business Class seat on Air China, China’s largest airline.

Let me tell you, Air China’s Business Class dwarfs the First Class of US airlines. (With the exception of Pan Am, which is sadly gone.) The Chinese dishes served to me in the air include, of course, Beijing duck, dim sum, xiaolongbao (dumplings), Sichuan chicken and many more, all exotic (and very) tasty.

The Conference is held at the Fandanian in Beijing, a classic old property dating back to 1917 and recently upgraded to five-star status. All public contact persons are fluent in English, so I feel as comfortable as possible.

This hotel is perfectly located in Dongchen, close to the Forbidden City, Tiananmen Square and Wangfujing shopping street.

My demi-suite is exquisitely furnished with the best of everything, including an unexpectedly nice bed. The view from my suite is of authentic Chinese rooftops, and bright street lights after dark, with mountains in the distance.

Having arrived a day early after the non-stop flight, I take a nap and then head outside to look around. It is only a short walk to the Forbidden City. The golden tiled roofs and the wide white courtyard catch my eye once. The beauty of the architecture is impressive. I hadn’t realized how big it is. (Half a mile each way). I see right away that this will require more than the hour or two I have before dinner. I plan to return

The conference facilities I experienced have been recently upgraded to Western taste. I feel at home talking there. I present, at their request, two presentations. This group of Chinese executives proves not to be as receptive as the typical American audience, though they certainly clap loud and long when I’m done.

My job done, I have a couple of days to see as much as I can before my flight back to LAX, Las Vegas, and then the trip to Kingman. I mean make the most of it!

The next afternoon I am back in the Forbidden City. I pass through the Gate of Heavenly Peace, enter the Hall of Great Harmony, and then the Zhong He Dian. There is much more, more than I can tell you in this short article.

How can I sum up my experience of the Great Wall of China, Wangfujing Mall, Donghuamen Night Market and much more?

And can you imagine? Except for the memories that I can’t resist, the great street food that I buy while walking and some tickets, this amazing experience doesn’t cost me anything. In fact, I’m taking home a generous check to take to the bankā€¦plus some unforgettable memories.

This is the speaker’s life, dear reader.

THERE IS MORE:

There are also long-term results. Since I’ve enjoyed a cornucopia of these results over the years, let me share some of my real-life results with you:

1. SEND YOUR KIDS TO PRIVATE SCHOOL

When my sons were 2 and 4 respectively, I enrolled them at Miss Buckley’s School in the foothills of Sherman Oaks.

Imagine enrolling your beloved children in a fancy private school, providing them with a higher education, seeing them poised for career success. Even a modestly successful speaker can do this, including you.

2. LIVE IN A MORE PLEASANT ENVIRONMENT

A few years ago I easily bought and loved living in a luxury ocean view home at Sunset Mesa in Malibu. It’s good to have rich neighbors. They dress better, tend to be nicer and more polite than the nice folks downstairs.

Imagine yourself and your loved ones upgrading to the exclusive neighborhood of your city. Or perhaps to a golf course, tennis court, or college town of your choice. You can easily do this when you are a modestly successful speaker or seminar leader.

3. BRING THE BEST

And about the clothes that you and your loved one wear. It can be scaled up a couple of notches easily. I will never forget the first time I walked into Carroll & Co. on Canon Drive in Beverly Hills. I easily paid $2000 for a suit. What feeling!

Imagine you easily do this at the best store in town. Your loved one too! When you bring home the bread from a concert or two, there’s nothing to do.

4. DINNER IN FIRST SCALE BISTROS

I have dined in some of the best restaurants in Ireland, the UK, Australia, New Zealand and all over Canada and the US For example, I will never forget dining at the 21 Club in New York. On another occasion, I remember taking my Inner Circle member, David Price, then president of the NSAA (National Speakers Association of Australia) to dinner. At the next table was Zig Ziglar and the redhead. Going out to dinner becomes a wonderful experience: you imagine taking your partner to the best restaurants. And not having to look to the right side of the menu.

5. ENJOY EXOTIC PERSONAL TRIPS

See you able to pick yourself up and go where your whims take you. Stay in the place you choose, be it on the beach, in the snow or wherever your fantasies take you. It’s so nice and there’s nothing wrong with being a modestly successful speaker.

6. WHERE THE RUBBER MEETS THE ROAD

All this and more is at hand for you and your loved ones now. But dreaming won’t make it happen. You have to get your butt off the couch and take action. This is what is needed:

6.1 Believe in yourself.

6.2 Get a mentor…someone who’s been on the track multiple times. Invest a few dollars to learn the ropes.

6.3 Be willing to do the work, and then do it with all your heart.

6.4 Discover the rules of the game.

6.5 Spend your time and energy creating the future you want.

You can have all of this if you want. Expect to have to work hard, be diligent, and learn the rules of the game. One more thing: you have to want it bad enough to have it.
