“There is always a rainbow after the rain.” This phrase popped into my mind when I saw the movie. It is toward repentance, selfless love, forgiveness, compassion, and amnesty. Les Miserables for me was an excellent musical performance in the world. Last week, I had the opportunity to see Les Miserables of 2012 and I enjoyed it. Starring Hugh Jackman as Jean Valjean, Russel Crowe as Javert, Anne Hathaway as Fantine, Isabelle Allen as little Cosette, Amanda Seyfried as grown-up Cosette, Eddie Redmayne as Marius, Samantha Barks as Eponine, and Daniel Huttlestone as Gavroche. However, the film caught my attention from the actors and actresses who actually portrayed their roles.

At first, Jean Valjean (24601) was released from 19 years in prison by Inspector Javert. Once released, he rebuilt his identity from stolen silver as mayor and factory owner. With that act, Javert will find him to take him back to jail. I admired him the most when he showed Fantine love by caring for her until her death and then adopted Fantine’s daughter, Cosette. He showed her his love and treated Cosette like his own daughter, who will do everything in his power to protect her.

They introduce us to Fantine, who has the burden of an illegitimate child. She soon found out from her co-workers, causing her to lose her job. Fantine turned to prostitution for the sake of her daughter Cosette. Today I know that prostitution is something very common in us. There are vulnerable and destitute people all over the world like Fantine. And I believed that by helping them not just for the government but for all of us, we can make a difference.

Another character that catches my attention is Cosette. She plays an attractive role in the movie. Like her mother, she also suffered. But in Cosette’s case, she is in the hands of her mother’s family to whom she entrusted her. At her young age, she was mistreated and abused by them. It bothered her that Fantine relied on the care of her beloved Cosette with these cruel people, but was relieved when she was adopted by Jean Valjean, who took on the responsibilities of being a father and mother to her.

I had great admiration for the next character, Gavroche. Beautify youth, showing that you can make a difference. At his young age, showing courage and great self-confidence, he joined the revolutionaries at the barricade. There, he fearlessly revealed that Javert is actually a spy. Then, an exchange of fire occurred with the soldiers. Gavroche heard Enjolras say they were short of dry ammunition. He is very determined to help. Make your way through the barricade to get dry ammo from the dead soldiers. As he collected cartridges and chanted, the soldiers shot him. This brave Gavroche makes me realize that you can do something, we can make a difference despite our age. I salute you for that!

On the other hand, Inspector Javert completes the quintessential story. He was very determined to send Jean Valjean back to jail. He spent almost his life just to find it. Javert was so obsessed. Well, maybe he did it because Jean Valjean found him. But on the other hand, it failed. 24601, Jean Valjean, whom he hated so much, did not dare to shoot him, instead showing forgiveness. Javert realized his selfish actions and eventually committed suicide.

In the end, Jean Valjean went to the convent, away from Cosette. But before he left, he revealed his past to Marius and did not dare to tell Cosette about it and instead told her that he was only going to travel. But once Marius learned that Jean Valjean was the man who saved him in the revolution, the couple went to the convent to comfort him on his deathbed.

I definitely love the movie because I am a music lover person. The songs were largely delivered by the artists. These songs are one of the best theater pieces I have ever heard. This story exposes things in the world such as unfair trials, discrimination, and injustices. Les Miserables is a form of film that enlightened our minds to see what is happening around us and what we can do about it. Love conquers all; They will even sacrifice their lives for their loved ones and others. As long as our domain is love, there is peace. Whatever happens, the goodness is still there. Even bad people can become better people. Whatever the struggle that is, how big your problem is, always remember that God is in control. Overall, the movie was great! Now, who of the characters was considered like you?
