The general guide to choosing a phone

Today, there are hundreds of types of phones to choose from, and if you don’t know the difference between Android and iPhone, it becomes even more difficult to choose. There are some major differences between them that will generally push people into one field or another, or at the very least, make a more informed decision about their mobile phone.

Hardware

Apple, as the only company that makes iPhones, has excellent hardware and therefore excellent quality in all of its phones. Their offers are limited and therefore easier to choose: iPhone 5, 6, 7, etc. Android, on the other hand, has a wide range of options, as they allow many phone manufacturers to use their software, such as Motorola, LG, Samsung, and HTC. However, because there are so many options, that increases the variability in the quality of Androids, from very basic and low-end phones to high-end premium phones.

Integration with other devices

Now this also depends on the other devices you have. If you have an Apple laptop and an iPad, an iPhone would be the obvious choice because they integrate well, sharing apps, iMessage, photos, and more between them. With Android you don’t get such a unified experience as there are so many manufacturers, however Google services will carry over across your Android devices as well.

Intelligence assistant

Siri, the iPhone assistant, is known for its ability to perform simple tasks, such as creating reminders or answering questions. However, the Android assistant GoogleNow has the upper hand over Siri with its full access to Google’s knowledge of you and the world to fully assist you.

User experience

The iPhone is easy to use, has a high quality and therefore works well and has the applications you want. Your use of the iPhone will be very similar to your friend’s use of the iPhone. The different models will also be quite similar, only with minor updates and adjustments between them. Androids, on the other hand, with their great variety, will offer a greater ability to customize exactly what you want, be it apps, screen display, or the level of software control.

Storage

IPhones don’t offer expandable storage, so you’ll stick with whatever GB you buy the phone with. You can buy cloud storage on a month-to-month basis, but it won’t work for apps. Many Android offer expandable memory, including all Motorolas, many from the Samsung series, and some LGs. So if storage is a priority for you, be sure to check your options before you buy.

Size and layout

For the newer iPhones, they come in 4.7 inches for 6, 6s, and 7s, or 5.5 inches for 6 plus, 6s plus, and 7 plus. And it will be the same for the iPhone 7s, 7s plus. The iPhone is a stylish and recognizable design, but again, it doesn’t come with as many options. If size is what you are looking for, Android offers more options. The Note series is Samsung’s offering for large phones, Motorola offers some 5.7-inch phones, while the Sony XPeria XA Ultra is a 6.0-inch phablet, among many other offerings. And as I mentioned earlier, Android has more design and customization options available.

So keep these considerations in mind when deciding which phone to buy next. You don’t need to stay with the same brand; however, many people prefer Android or iPhone and are not comfortable with the change.
