The 3 main types of scaffolds and what they are used for

If you are in the construction field or interested in some type of larger home improvement, chances are you will need some type of scaffolding installed at some point in your life. But that’s certainly not the only reason you would need a scaffold. There are many types of scaffolding. These consist of three main categories; suspended, supported and aerial. After reading this informative article, you will have a deeper understanding of these three types of scaffolds.

Let’s take a closer look at what these three types of scaffolds entail. Suspended scaffold is when the scaffold is suspended securely with a rope from the roof or top of a house or building. Suspended scaffolds are made up of pulleys, levers, and switches. These allow you to go down from the top of the building to the bottom and vice versa.

The next type of scaffold is known as a supported scaffold. This type is the one that is built from the ground up. It consists of wood and posts to make a framed scaffold. You climb a ladder to mount this type and work from the middle length of the scaffold called a platform. The supported scaffold is one of the only types of scaffold that allows it to be grounded on supports or fully mobile if the wheels are attached to the bottom of the supports.

The last category that we will become more familiar with is called aerial lifts. Aerial lifts are actually mounted devices that have the ability to be lifted to other elevations and locations. This is very useful for workers when they need to lift the scaffold to a completely different location. However, for this to be achieved, this is one of the types of scaffolding that requires shackles to prevent them from accidentally disengaging from the hook that the lift carries.

Now that you’ve read this guide, you have a better understanding of what you need to do to classify the different types of scaffolds. If you’re washing windows in a fifty-story tall building, it’s probably best to use some type of suspended scaffold mounting. On the other hand, if you intend to build a house, it is best for you to use the supported ground scaffold. And if you need a source to move the scaffold in the air, it is recommended that you go with the aerial approach.
