Some of the best Italian restaurants in all of Manhattan

Plain and simple, the Big Apple has amazing restaurants. This is not shocking news for anyone. One of the best types of cuisine that you can taste in New York, however, is their pasta. There are so many options to try and new places are constantly opening up.

While new restaurants will always be opening their doors, some pasta places will never lose their grandeur. These are my five favorite places to get my pasta fix in New York City as of right now.

I’ll start by mentioning Michael White’s newest restaurant, Marea. This recent one is the recent James Beard winner for Best New Restaurant. While it is not a traditional Italian restaurant (its predominant focus is seafood), its best dish is the bone marrow fussilli with braised octopus.

When I want some Italian food with my family, we go to the best family-style Italian restaurant in town, which is none other than Carmines. You order the table here, and the dishes never end. Or so they seem.

No list of Italian pasta restaurants would be complete without mentioning a Mario Batali establishment. The man is a self-proclaimed king of Italian cuisine, and he could be. People have different opinions on which one is better, but you can’t go wrong with either Del Posto or Babbo.

For a special occasion, a great place to visit in New York is Scalini Fedeli at TriBeCa. The room is absolutely spectacular as is the food. It is not a pasta restaurant per se, but any pasta dish you get here will leave you smiling.

Lastly, a Scott Conant restaurant should be named. While the Meatpacking District lacks great restaurants, Scarpetta is worth a visit. The spaghetti is the star of the show, served al dente to perfection.

Another place worth mentioning is Spina in the East Village. This place rolls their fresh pasta every day and has a constantly changing list of selections. A great place to try if you are in town looking for a cheaper option.
