Relentless diligence model

Penniless “Colonel” Harlan Sanders, 65, sleeping in his battered old car, driving around the United States for years trying to convince restaurant owners to serve up the pressure cooked fried chicken recipe he called Kentucky Fried Chicken …

Sylvester Stallone endured years and years and years of rejection by all the Hollywood studios while buying his unheard-of script about a mythical boxer whom he called “Rocky” …

What’s the connection between Jan Vermeer, “Colonel” Sanders, Sylvester Stallone, and you? Relentless diligence. That is the connection. How relentlessly diligent are you? If you are a successful speaker, you know about relentless diligence.

If you’re not enjoying the business success you crave, listen to it. These articles are for you. For over 20 years (Where did the time go?) I have been speaking, training, writing and advising on a national (now international) level.

Here’s proof that relentless diligence is an important key to talking about business success. I am a good speaker, not a great speaker. I proved that anyone can be successful in this business.

My version of relentless diligence: living in Santa Monica, (Pacific time zone) Getting up shortly after 4am, running 3 miles, meditating, showering, eating, dressing. By phone at 5 a.m. M. Calling Eastern Time Zone Decision Makers. Smile and dial, smile and dial, smile and dial. Works west through time zones until 9 a.m. M. Always calling early in the morning when the day is young.

Ask the right questions, always empathetic and caring. Much more concerned with adding value to a meeting than with my fees. Following carefully. 15 hours a week of this (when you’re not on the road) yields around 75 work sessions and only a few keynotes each year. Good rates. Six-figure income. Comfortable lifestyle.

Of course, you must have words of wisdom to share from the platform. A decent blade. At least one audio demo. A video demonstration is better. A website, even a modest one. A home office from which to operate. And you must never give up, never give up, never give up.

Let’s face it, life is not fair. And hundreds of aspiring bets go from aspiring to survive to being successful to being important each year. Why not you? Do a thousand and one little things every day better. Focus on making a difference, making a difference, making a difference.

Model relentless diligence, model relentless diligence, model relentless diligence. It never ends. This is the price you pay to be successful as a speaking expert. Every successful expert who talks is a champion.

Success in the business of public speaking – you can have it if you want. And you have to want it enough to have it.
