How to use unread email filter on Mac?

If you’re trying to get your unread emails into your Mail for Mac app quickly, we’ve got good news for you. One last simple filter option can make it easier than ever to display only the latest unread or flagged messages in your email account inboxes.

The Quick Toggle Unread Email Filter feature is the latest version of Mail for Mac OS available today to save you time and effort. If you have an older system software version, this capability will not be available to you, although you can use the unread email inbox sorting trick here instead. Suppose you are using one of the newer versions of the system software. So new unread email toggle filter is available which will help you get unread email.

STEPS TO FILTER UNREAD EMAILS ON MAC TO SEE ALL UNREAD MESSAGES: –

  • You must open the Mail application on your Mac.
  • Go to the main Mailboxes screen in your Mail and locate the little filter toggle button, it’s a small button and it looks like a series of lines on top of each other.
  • Then click the little filter button to immediately filter all emails so that only unread messages appear.
  • Now, click the filter toggle again to get all the emails in the inbox, both unread and read according to your requirements.
  • All unread emails will show up on the Mail screen only as long as that switch is configured and enabled.
  • Otherwise, you can also activate it once and then for each subsequent opening of the mail application the unread filter will remain enabled.

It’s an easy trick to add when updating your inbox to get the new email with the press of a key if you’re just looking for new or unread messages. It’s also an incredibly useful way if you ever come across the Mail app that will show you that it has new unread emails available, but if you can’t quickly see them on the screen. By toggling the Unread filter, even previous unread emails will appear on your screen.

Note that you have to click the actual little round filter button if you want to filter the inbox.

Clicking on the text next to the filter button will instead reveal a drop-down menu where you can choose what the quick filter button does, adjusting some simple filtering options for each email account setting in Mac Mail.

As we mentioned earlier, you’ll get this little filter toggle button found only in the latest versions of the Mail app for Mac OS. Besides this, you can get it in Sierra (10.12) or later. If you are Mac users with an older version of the system software, then a similar function can be worked by creating a smart unread mail inbox in Mail, and that approach works in newer versions of MacOS Mail as well.

Tip: However, this trick will only work for Mac users and Mail app, but if you have a mobile device like iPhone and iPad. You can also turn on Show Unread Email in iOS Mail to quickly get which emails are waiting to be read. The unread email filter toggle will work similarly on macOS and iOS devices.
